The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Of Traveling

On the road four years and counting, and not thinking of quitting just yet.
South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi,Tanzania and Kenya to Argentina and Ecuador. To the USA and on to France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria and Germany.
Since the UK voted themselves out of the European Union they get a sentence (pun intended) all of their own.

Traveling around the world at a slow pace

As you can gather, this is not the most impressive number of countries visited in four years but we like to do the detail and not the numbers.
We also like to return to places we love. By this I mean, that we take things slowly spending a lot of time actually living and experiencing life as it is in the places we visit and not merely flashing by without seeing much.

Dunrobin Castle, Scotland

In all our travels most of our time is spent in the wilderness areas as much as possible, but we are up for anything. In England for example, wilderness areas are hard to find. One too many cathedrals, castles and quaint villages etc. etc. But get up into Scotland which is wild and open and just beautiful, although it is for the most part cold and wet.
Kgalagadi, South Africa

Lion and Gemsboks in the Kgalagadi, South Africa

In Southern Africa the Game Parks are unmistakably the most beautiful (although challenging) wildernesses to be found anywhere in the world, where one can still have an idea how perfect nature is when out of human hands.
As are the beaches which can stretch for miles and miles, white sand, warm waters near perfect surf. What more does one need. If you are traveling with Dollars or Euros it’s also relatively cheap.

Marcelle & George in Patagonia, Argentina

South America, like most continents it would take a lifetime to see it all. But there’s the thing: one can never see it all no matter how much time or money one has, which is why we pinpoint certain places and try to spend more time in the area rather than zip through it all.
Argentina and Ecuador were a pleasant surprise with its friendliness and showed a completely different approach to life as we know it. Argentina itself is the six or seven largest country on earth, so you can realize how much time it would take to see just Argentina never mind the rest of South America.

USA, Love it or hate it

The USA is the USA and now with Trump in charge good luck to them (and good luck to the rest of us). Another country so large that every conceivable place one wants to visit can be done in the confines of its borders. From tropical beaches to freezing mountain tops and everything in between. What’s also great news (for us) is they are making good strides in bringing back wildlife in ever increasing numbers.

Austria, going back in time

Europe, what can I say. If you like history, eating and a high standard of living (and yes it has its problems), it’s certainly in our experience so far the safest and easiest place to travel. Go where you like at whatever time and one doesn’t feel threatened in any way. Of course when traveling no matter where, one must remain vigilant and not do stupid stuff or be complacent.

16 Travelers give their best travel advice!

So the best place so far? Very difficult to say as each place has its own beauty and no matter which country we found most people to be polite, helpful and friendly. City people on the other hand are a different breed as I am sure we are all aware of. Too much to do and too little time to be bothered. That’s life and if you asked to stop traveling, get a job so I can buy more stuff I respectively decline, I’m having too much fun.
My favorite then: the two big game parks in South Africa namely, Kruger National Park and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with Yellowstone National Park in the United States (out of peak season) a close second.
